December 2011 brings GSRCNY a very generous donation from the Priscilla Mahar Animal Welfare Foundation. We are thrilled to have been chosed to be one of the rescue groups to receive this award. We cannot thank you enough for your generosity.

The Priscilla Mahar Animal Welfare Foundation announced that nearly $8000 was handed out to animal rescue organizations on Thursday.

CNY Central’s Chief Meteorologist Wayne Mahar is President of the foundation which was named after his mom who passed away in 2007 at 85 years old. Priscilla Mahar was always an animal lover.

The money was distributed among eight animal rescue organizations across central New York. Money raised was from this year’s Canine Carnival, sponsored by Wegman’s and CNYcentral, which was held at the Wegman’s Good Dog Park in Liverpool.

Planning is already under way for next years Canine Carnival which will be held on Saturday August 4, 2011 at Longbranch Park in Liverpool.

Those who received donations from the Priscilla Mahar Animal Welfare Foundation included:

CNY SPCA
Sunshine Horses
SANS Spay and Neuter Syracuse
Humane Association of CNY
German Shepherd Rescue
Kitty Corner
Operation Wildcats
Chow Chow Rescue

For more information on the Pricislla Mahar Animal Welfare Foundation and the Canine Carnival please visit www.PMAWF.org or e-mail wgmahar@gmail.com.

In February 2011, GSRCNY was awarded a grant from the Petfinder.com Foundation and Intervert/Schering-Ploiughfor the Canine Influenza Vaccination for our Rescue dogs!!  This vacccine helps protect dogs from the complications of canine influenza, which is highly contagious and has been reported in 34 states in the US!  We wish to thank these two groups for helping us to keep our dogs healthy!  All vaccines will be administered by Lake Country Veterinary Clinic, Marcellus, NY!

The American German Shepherd Rescue Association has been very supportive of GSRCNY's efforts since 2007. We thank them profusely!  The American German Shepherd Rescue Association, Inc. was developed as a fundraising group to operate programs which protect the German Shepherd Dog from suffering due to cruelty, homelessness, ignorance, neglect and misuse.

buildabear_bearhugsGSRCNY is pleased to announce that it received a 2011 grant of $1,250 from the Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundationto be used for heartworm prevention (Interceptor), toward any heartworm positive dogs that may come into our program in 2011, and also for the continued needs of Chauser, our puppy with a heart condition that will likley require costly surgery!  Thank you for having a heart for our dogs!!

GSRCNY received a grant in 2009 from Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation of $500to purchase a microchip reader and 25 Avid microchips so that all GSRCNY dogs could be microchipped before going "home".

[singlepic id=156 w=320 h=240 float=left]We wish to thank the PETCO Foundationfor its 2008, 2009, and 2010 grants to GSRCNY.  This Foundation supports community organizations and efforts that enhance the lives of companion animals while strengthening the bond between people and pets. They help animal welfare organizations find loving homes for orphaned pets, as well as fund spay and neuter programs, animal assisted therapy and humane education.  PETCO has provided GSRCNY with not only monetary assistance, but dog food and a venue for meet and greets.  We thank PETCO for their ongoing support of our efforts!  Check out a recent news article done after GSRCNY's visit to PetCo by clicking here!

[singlepic id=159 w=320 h=240 float=left]GSRCNY has received grants from PEDGREE Foundation in both 2008, 2009, and 2010.  THE PEDIGREE Foundation is a philanthropic organization dedicated to helping dogs in need find loving homes. They provide grants to 501(c)(3) dog shelters and breed rescue organizations, and help dog lovers adopt, volunteer, and make donations. Through no fault of their own, more than four million dogs end up in shelters and breed rescue organizations every year, and nearly half of them never find a place to call home. PEDIGREE's mission is to help those dogs by providing grants to shelters and rescue groups—and by encouraging dog adoption.  GSRCNY uses its PEDIGREE grant money to purchase dog food for its orphans.  We are very grateful for this assistance!

[singlepic id=155 w=320 h=240 float=left]Last Hope Safe Haven, Inc. has also helped fund the purchase of portable kennels.  In addition, they have provided GSRCNY with shelter pull fees and veterinary care in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010.  Last Hope Safe Haven, Inc. is comprised of a dedicated group of German Shepherd Dog enthusiasts who had grown tired of the number of beloved German Shepherds facing a torturous death in kill facilities throughout the country.  GSRCNY thanks Last Hope Safe Haven for its continued support.

[singlepic id=138 w=320 h=240 float=left]The American Kennel Club Companion Animal Recovery donated a new universal microchip reader to GSRCNY in 2010.  All GSRCNY dogs are microchipped before placement in new homes.

The Maddie's Fund mission is to "revolutionize the status and well-being of companion animals."  This Pet Rescue Foundation is a family foundation that was established in 1999 to help the creation of a no-kill nation.  Since its inception, Maddie's Fund has awarded animal welfare organizations and universities $71.6 million to save dogs and cats.

GSRCNY is proud to be affiliated with both Maddie's Fund and the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals.  We have been members since 2009.  GSRCNY's first priority is saving animals in right here in New York State and these two organizations assist us with that!

The Iroquois German Shepherd Dog Club of Syracuse, Inc. continues to support the efforts of its local rescue group and we are very thankful for that support.  Each year the Club "tags" some of their Show proceeds for Rescue.  In 2009, the Club was very generous.  GSRCNY and the dogs in our care thank you!
